I would like to share my treatment philosophy with you. It’s what helps people heal, grow and move forward in their lives, and influences my work as a psychotherapist. This is important for you to know if you are seeking therapy and looking for the right therapist.
Beginning in early childhood, everything that happens to you becomes a part of you and what you believe about yourself. It shapes your thoughts and influences how you behave. You develop beliefs that are your own unique strategies for living and influence your decisions as to how to live your life and relate to others. Some of these beliefs are deeply ingrained, some conscious and others unconscious. As a psychotherapist, I guide you to look deeply at the emotional experiences of your life and help you gain insight into your life patterns. In therapy, you learn how your beliefs and ways of coping were developed and needed in the past, and clarify what matters to you today. And when you understand your life in these ways, you gain clarity and generate choices for change.
In the therapeutic relationship, I provide a supportive place for you to feel safe. I naturally value you and your relationships and the trust and confiding bond that I create with you in the process of your growth in therapy.
My initial effort at the outset of therapy with you, one that I weave in through all of the sessions, is to help you leave your therapy appointments with a clearer understanding of what you want and/or need to work on in order to reach your goals. And there is a creative aspect in therapy. The point in therapy when you begin to imagine, realistically of course, how you want to live, have relationships, work and play. If you imagine and believe that a better job, happier relationship, a more positive view of oneself are possible, then there are concrete steps you can take to create the changes needed.
